과학영재교육원 효과성에 관한 진단과 분석

Abstract

논문 요약영재교육은 효과적인가? 대학부설 과학영재교육원이 본격적으로 운영된 지 어느덧 10년이 다가오는 현시점에서 과연 영재교육은 효과적이라고 평가할 수 있는가? 영재교육원에서 영재교육을 받는 동안 학생들은 인지적, 비인지적 측면에서 어떻게 달라지며 수료 후에 영재교육을 받지 않은 학생들과 어떠한 측면에서 차별화되는가? 이러한 물음에 답하는 것이 이 연구의 목표이다. 대학부설 과학영재교육원의 효과성을 총체적으로 진단하고 분석하기 위해 이 연구는 1) 전국 22개 대학부설 과학영재교육원 재학생, 수료생, 참여 교수들을 대상으로 대규모의 설문조사, 2) 영재교육 수혜집단과 비교집단 간의 단기 및 중장기적 비교분석, 3) 영재교육원 수료생들에 대한 추적연구를 통한 진로현황 파악 등을 실시하였다. 본 고에서는 각각의 연구 결과를 상세히 제시하기 보다는 한국 사회에서 현재 활발하게 이루어지고 있는 영재교육 효과성에 관한 전체적인 윤곽을 제시하기 위해 각각의 연구 결과들을 요약하여 기술함으로써 대학부설 과학영재교육원의 효과성에 대해 보다 종합적이고 다양한 시각을 제공하고자 하였다.

Is gifted education effective? It is both an important and sensitive question. It is almost ten years that gifted education centers affiliated with universities have been managed to educate gifted learners in Korea. However, there has been so little effort to evaluate the effectiveness of those gifted education programs and so little evidence that gifted education is effective or not. How and in what aspects gifted learners are differentiated or improved through the gifted education programs? The present study is initiated from these questions. To diagnose and analyse comprehensively the effectiveness of gifted education program at the gifted education centers affiliated with universities, the study carried out following four subordinate studies: 1) a survey of students, professors, and graduates of 22 gifted education centers nationwide; 2) a quasi experimental study to compare the gifted education center students and the potentially gifted students without any gifted education services both in short and long term base; 3) an analysis of career of the graduates of gifted education center through the follow up study. To show the comprehensive perspective on the effectiveness of the gifted education programs, the present study is composed of the short main results of the each study on the above rather than to describe the overall results of each study in detail and in separate.
