부모의 관여가 중학생의 학업적 자아효능감과 내적 동기에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 부모의 관여 행동이 중학생의 학업적 자아효능감과 내적 동기에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 나아가 미국 부모 및 청소년들의 특성과 비교하여 논의하는 데 있다. 자녀의 다양한 발달적 특성이 형성되는 데 있어 주요 사회적 환경요인인 부모는 청소년들의 학업동기 형성에서도 중요한 영향을 미친다. 그러나 구체적으로 부모의 어떤 관여행동이 청소년들의 학업동기 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지에 대한 연구는 충분하지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국교육개발원의 한국교육종단조사(Korea Education Longitudinal Study, 이하 KELS) 1차년도 데이터를 사용하여 부모의 관여 행동이 중학생 자녀의 학업적 자아효능감과 내적 동기에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 이러한 분석결과를 토대로, KELS의 모태가 되었던 미국의 ELS2002 자료를 분석하여 동일한 주제를 연구했던 미국 연구결과와 비교함으로써 특성들의 문화간 비교를 시도하고자 하였다. 분석결과, 우리나라 부모의 관여 행동 대부분은 중학생 자녀의 학업적 자아효능감과 내적 동기와 정적 상관이 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 비록 설명량은 작지만, 부모의 다양한 관여 행동 중 자녀와 함께 하는 활동이나 자녀에 대한 교육적 기대가 자녀의 학업적 자아효능감 및 내적 동기에 통계적으로 유의한 영향 변인임을 확인하였는데 이러한 연구 결과는 미국의 경우와 일치하는 것으로 나타났다. 이후 이러한 연구결과가 우리나라 부모의 관여 행동과 청소년들의 학업동기에 대해 시사하는 바를 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of parental involvement on students' academic self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation and to compare this results with those of American similar study using the data of Educational Longitudinal Study of 2002(ELS2002). To do this, we examined whether various parental involvement behavior predicted middle school students' academic self-efficacy towards maths, English and Korean and intrinsic motivation towards maths, English and Korean using data from the Korean Educational Longitudinal Study(KELS). The results show that most parental involvement behaviors are positively related to children' academic self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation, especially parents educational aspiration for their children and parents' participation in activities with children had strong positive effects on all six motivational outcomes. These results are almost like the ones of American similar study(Fan & Williams, 2010). Lastly discussion is focused on the meaning of these findings and the suggestions for the further studies.
