Abstract
In this paper I studied climatic-geomorphologically the weathering features of granite, especially the granite dome which dominates the granite region in the northwestern part of Seoul. The region of Back-Wun Dae and In-Soo Bong which occupies the main part of this paper is the granite region, whose orogenic movement had veered in the direction of China (NE-SW) during the Daebo orogenic movement at the end of Jurassic Period. The granite dome which dominates in this region is similar to Exfoliation dome, especially Zuckerh-utberg or Sugar Loaf, which is seen in the tropic region is located in a plain, the granite dome in this paper mainly develops at the monadock, above sea level 400~500m. The granite dome, chiefly Zuckerhutberg or Panzerberg, has on its top Schlibstein or Wollsach-stein as a pedestal. The distribution and formulation of the granite dome are closely related to tectonic line, joint, and exposition. Under the monsoon climate of temperate zone, the granite dome presents the phenomeonon of powerful erosion as well as chemical weathering. In summer the process is accelerated on the south west slope which is Luvseite of monsoon. And in winter the mechanical weathering becomes more active because of cold climate.
