韓國의 都市規模分布變化 Pattern

Abstract

The Purpose of this study is to examine the change pattern in city size distribution in Korea on thebasis ofurban rank size rule. Cities dealt with in this study are confined to 'Bu, Si, or Eup', whose population Size is more than 20, 000 persons, during the period 1789~ 1975. Before the Liberation in 1945 cities of all Korea are investigated. Because we can't get statistical sources of North Korea, cities of North Korea are ana1yzed after the Liberation. As the res:11t of this research the following conclusions are made: (l) Seoul has been the first city in population size during 1789--1975. When every city of Korea has come up to population size over 250, 000, it has kept up its constant rank: before 1945, S20]1, Busan, or Pyungyang has taken its rank in proper sequence by population size, an after 1945, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Inchun, Gwang-ju, Daejun, Jeonju, or M2.san h2,S done. (2) The variation of population size order during 1944~60 has been most greatly changed during the whole period, 1789~1975. Regarding the population size of 100, 000 as ~' a standard, cities, whose ranks are over tenth, has more increased in population than that under tenth, during1944~60. When we examine cities under tenth especially, during the period 1949~60, numbers of cities whose population size are 20, 000-50, 000 have greatly increased, on the contrary that growth of cities whose population size are 50,000- 100, 000 has been inappreciable.
