Abstract
“Poong-Soo” is a kind of Korean tranditional geomancy. Generally we divide it into two kinds. One is the “Eum-Taek Poon-Soo[陰宅風水]”, the selection of burial grounds and the other is the “Yang-Taek Poong-Soo[陽宅風水], the selection of building sites and settlement location. The auther studied about "Yang-Taek PoongSoo" Which is published at Geography, -Chiri Hak-, No. 17, June 1978, issued by Korean Geographical Society. In that thesis the aut her reached a conclusion that superstitious "PoongSoo" has a certain value to be discussed from the modern geographical angle. It is generally accepted that Poong(風) signifies weather orclimate and SOO(水) means using water condition. That is a kind of traditional settlementlocation theory in Korea.Chang-Jo Choi* In this thesis the aut her explains "PoongSoo" focusing on "Eum-Taek", from a viewpoint of site for recreation and resort area. Site of "Eum-Taek" is good for that utility because of its mountainous landscape and existence of streams. Its environment of outskirts is naturally harmonious and symmetrical. Ancient people of Korea were strongly influenced by the customs of filial piety thought grounds as a maternity. They gained almost all of their necessaries of life from the grounds so they regarded the influences of them as a decisive fact.
