dc.description.abstract | This is a study of sadaebu(priviliged class in Yi Dynasty period: 士大夫) clan villages in the Andong area with emphasis on the developmental stages, sites, and cultural landscapes associated with Sung Confucianism.
Results of the field works concerning the villages of the five representative clans of Andong area, Chinbo Yi (珍寶 李), Pung san Ryu(豊山 柳), Chonju Ryu(全州 柳), may be summerized as follows: 1) The formative process of sadaebu clan villages is closely related to the introduction of Sung Confucianism from China to Korea during the declining period of Koryo Dynasty and the earlier part of Yi Dynasty, its spread in the 15th-16th centuries and adaptation to the rural area in the 17th century. The above-mentioned five Sadaebu clan families had been local officials(鄉吏) and nobilities (地方豪族) until 13th century. They elevated thier social status to sadaebu dass during the 14th-16th centuries. An outstanding sub-founder of a clan left his original place and settled down on a new site. Sung Confucianism was flourishing in the 16th century, when many Confucian scholars and high ranking officials from the Andong area became the new sadaebus. | - |
