Abstract
Articles on climatology in Korean journals authored by Korean geograpers began to be published in 1958 and since 1970 the number of papers showed a rapid increase each year. During the period from 1958 through 1986, the total of climatological articles amounted to 425: papers by geographers were 154(36.2%) and the rest were published by other scientists from such disciplines as meteorology, architecture, agriculture, engineering, and so on. The role of geographers in the study of climatology has been considerable in Korea. In this pater the author analysed the accomplishment of geographers since 1976 and reached the conclusion as follows. Geographers showed much interests especially on synoptic(33.1%) and applied climatology(28.8%). Regional climatology(27.1%) was also important, but physical climatology was negligible. Recently, interests in the changes of climate(11.1%)were increasing considerably. It is believed that students, who want to study climatology, should have a strong background on natural science. Because atmospheric environment of boundary layer, which is important to human being, has a close relationship with hydrophere, lithoshere and ecosystem, and various processes of climatic phenomena can be fully explained or understood through the support of the knowledge of such natural sciences as physics, chemistray, biology and geology.
