dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to investigate the socio-spatial implication of 'vinyl house villages' in the agricultural area adjacent to Seoul City. The study area is SAMPYUNG DONG in SONGNAM CITY and KWANSAN DONG, in KOYANG CITY. The following themes will be emphasized First, the status of 'vinyl house villages' in the Adjacent Agricultural Area of Seoul City, Second, the feature and forming process of 'vinyl house villages' in the Adjacent Agricultural Area of Seoul City, Third, the feature of land use of the 'vinyl house villages'. Fourth, On the basis of these result, possibility of modifying general theory on land use in adjacent area of metropolis. The results of the study is as follows. First, The change of the area adjacent to Seoul City is clearly divided into two phases - an urbanized area and unurbanized area. The numbers of the 'vinyl house villages' have increased rapidly in the areas adjacent to Seoul City. This provides a remarkable contrast to other parts of the urbanized area. Second, changes in demograpy are caused by an inflow of people from the cities. The native farming families differentiates into three categories. First, the special occupation farmers increase the intensity of land use through commercialized fanning. Second, parttime farmers run farms while also being employed in urban industries. Third, are thou se who give up farming. The purchase rate of land by those who do not live in this area is increasing. Third, the vinyl houses in the study area are not only used for fanning but also manufacturing, housing, service(agency, ware house). More than ninety percent of flower farming houses reside in Vinyl Houses. They concentrate in certain places and form 'vinyl house Villages'. Seventy percent of individuals that live in 'vinyl house villages' are pushed out from the land market and labor market in Seoul.-
