홍콩-광동 지역경제 통합과정 : 개방적 접경경제공간의 형생과 의미

Abstract

본 연구는 홍콩·광동 지역경제 통합과정과 지역경제의 미친 영향, 그리고 일반적인 접경지역연구의 발전과 우리나라 접경지역의 공간전략수립에 대해 갖는 함의를 고찰하였다. 홍콩·광동의 지역경제 통합은 중국의 공간발전전략의 수정과 홍콩 산업구조의 재편이라는 정치경제적 배경에서 시작되었으며, 그 진행과정에서 중요하게 작용했던 요인은 바로 지리적인면서도 문화적, 정치적, 경제적인 근접성이었다. 그렇지만 지역경제 통합과정의 결과는 홍콩 산업지리의 단순한 공간적 외연확대이며, 오랫동안 홍콩의 지배적인 산업구조의 특징이었던 수출지향적 경공업중심 구조의 경쟁력 연장을 위한 공간적 해결책이었다. 홍콩·광동 지역경제통합은 나아가 개방지향적 접경공간의 이해와 접경지역 발전전략에 중요한 함의를 지니고 있다.

This study investigates Hong Kong-Guangdong regional economic integration process and its impacts on regional economies as well as its implications for border region studies and cross-border development strategy in the Korean context. The regional economic integration was initiated under the condition of the changing spatial development strategy in the post-reform China and the needs of industrial restructuring in Hong Kong. Its process has ~ mainly shaped by the cultural, economic, political as well as geographical proximity rather than by general factors in foreign direct investment research. Spatial dimension of the integration can be considered not only as a simple expanded industrial geography of Hong Kong but also as a spatial fix for maintaining Hong Kong's competitiveness. Nevertheless, the integration experience has significant implications for general border region research and cross-border development strategy in Korea.
