대통령 선거 결과의 공간통계적 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 대통령 선거결과라는 집합자료를 공간 통계적으로 접근하여 대선이 지남에 따라 지리적으로 나타나는 정치적 분리패턴과 그 변화를 행정동단위 수준에서 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 후보자 선호의 지리적인 군집은 정치적 분리를 의미하는바, G통계량을 통ㅎ애 각 후보자 득표율의 군집과 핫스팟, 콜드스팟을 분석하였다. 그 결과 보수적 후보 득표율의 핫스팟 지역은 구로구를 제외한 지역에서 꾸준히 감소하고 있는 반면, 콜드스팟은 증가하고 있다. 이러한 결과는 보수적 후보의 핵심지지층 지역은 증가하고 진보적 후보의 핵심지지층 지역은 점차 소멸되어 가고 있는 것으로 파악된다. 둘째, 기존의 도시사회지리학에서 사용되던 거주지분리지수를 사용하여 각각의 후보를 지지하는 유권자들의 분포를 균등/군집차원에서 분석하였다. 득표율이 높은 상위 두 명의 후보자에 대한 상이지수 측정 결과는 16대, 15대, 17대 순으로 높았다. 또한 후보자 선호의 다양성이 낮은 지역은 강남구와 서초구의 행정동에 집중적으로 나타나고 있으며 이러한 지역들은 순위에는 다소 차이는 있으나 매 선거마다 유지되고 있는 경향을 보이고 있다. 셋째, 고립/노출의 차원에서 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 보수적 후보를 지지하는 유권자들의 고립정도는 17대, 15대, 16대 순으로 높고 진보적 후보에 대해서는 그 반대 경향을 보인다. 또한 강남 · 서초구는 대선이 지남에 따라 보수적 후보를 지지하는 유권자들 서로에게만 노출될 가능성이 커지고 있는데, 17대에는 강도마저 강해져 다른 후보를 지지하는 유권자와 의견접촉의 측면에서 점차 고립 되어가고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 즉 이 이 지역들은 지리적으로 나타나는 정치적인 분리 정도가 상당함을 의미한다. 투표결과의 공간적 분로를 소지역 단위에서 공간 통계적으로 접근함으로써 지리적으로 나타나는 정치적 분리양상과 변화를 파악할 수 있었는데, 이러한 연구는 선거결과의 공간구조의 시대적 추이를 규명할 수 있음에 중요성이 있다.

Abstract : This study aims to examine the pattern of political segregation and its change which happened geographically after presidential election, on the level of administrative unit by approaching the collective data of presidential election result as spatial statistics. The result is as follows.

First, since geographical clustering of preferred candidate signifies political segregation, this study analyzed each candidates clustering of vote share, hot spot and cold spot through G statistics. The result showed that hot spot of conservative candidates vote share was gradually growing and mainly consisted of administrative units belonging to Gangnam Gu, Seocho Gu, and Songpa Gu. Hot spot of progressive candidates vote share was consistently diminishing except Guro Gu and their cold spot was growing. This result represents the fact that regions of core supporters of conservative candidates are increasing and those of progressive candidates are shrinking.

Second, this study analyzed the distribution of voters supporting each candidate in terms of evenness and clustering, using residential segregation index which has been used in urban social geography. The result of analyzing dissimilarity index dissimilarity index for two candidates was high in order as 16th, 15th, 17th.

Regions that had low diversity of candidate preference were centered on the administrative units of Gangnam Gu and Seocho Gu and the order of these units differed a little in each election but maintained overall tendency.

Third, the result of analysis concerning isolation and exposure is as follows. The degree of isolation of voters supporting conservative candidates was high in order as 17th, 15th, 16 th and the isolation degree of voters supporting progressive candidates showed the opposite. In addition, voters of conservative candidates in Gangnam Gu and Seocho Gu after presidential election have had more chances to be exposed only to each other, and with even more intensity in 17th, which means they are getting more isolated in terms of opinion exchange with voters supporting other candidates. This represents there exists considerable political segregation in these regions geographically.

Consequently, this study examined the aspect of geographical political segregation and its change by approaching the spatial distribution of election result of sub-regions as spatial statistics. This study has significance in that it investigates how the spatial structure of election result has developed with the times.
