- Abstract
- River terrace is the main subject of Quaternary research in the nonglaciated
area such as Korean Peninsular. Much information about geomorphological events such as the Quaternary paleoclimate and the crustal movement is recorded in river terraces. Therefore, to study river terrace Will be helpful to understaand the history of geomorphological development and Quaternary paleoenvironment.
This dissertation is an attempt to elucidate the relationships among c1imatic changes, crustal movements, and the development of river terrace at the upper
reach of the great rivers in Korean Peninsular. I selected the drainage basins of
Nakdong River and Banbeon Stream which flows through the western side of,
and Wangpi Steram which flows through the western side of Taebaik
Mountains, where river terraces were typically developed. And by ana1ysing the
spatial distribution of terraces formed at each basin, the physical and chemical
characterics of terraces deposite, depositional structures of outcrops, I clarified
the morphogenetic processes of terraces.
