- Abstract
- The study area is a lakeside recreational area located approximately 6.5 km east of historical area, Kyongju which is one of the most famous historical area in Korea and has been designated as one of the ten biggest historical spots in the world by UNESCO in 1979.
The original purpose of the development of lakeside recreationl area was to attract the foreign tourists who are used to visit the historical area, Kyongju, by providing high quality accommodation and recreation facilities. The Korean government has invested approximately 70 million dollars for the first stage development of this area and two hotels were built in the area to accommodate the foreign tourists. Recently, it turned out that there is a deficit amounting to 10 million dollars annually after its opening in April in 1979, which means that the recreational area doesn't attract many foreign tourists as well as domestic tourists as expected.
Therefore, the study will focus on investigating the influencing factors on recreation demand for Bomun recreation area and establishing the conceptual framework for further extensive study.
