Abstract
One of the critical missions of the Institute for Japanese Studies (IJS) at SeoulNational University is to globalize the results of Japan-related research produced in Korea. How to expose this excellent research to a global academic community has been a decade-long challenge for the IJS, which commemorated the 10th anniversary of its establishment in 2014. In terms of the number of researchers engaged in Japanese studies, Korea is second to none in the world. According to a survey of the status of Japanese studies conducted by the Japan Foundation and the Sejong Institute in 2012, more than 1,077 PhDs are currently working on Japan in various educational and research institutions in Korea. However, as most of them publish their articles and books in Korean, the global academic community involved in Japanese studies had a hard time reaching out to the quality works produced by the Japan specialists in Korea.
