대학생의 중도탈락에 영향을 미치는 대학수준 요인 분석

Abstract

본 연구에서는 대학 차원의 요인을 중심으로 대학생의 중도탈락에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 분석하고자 하였다. 대학의 학생변동사항 중 일시적으로 해당 대학을 떠났다가 일정기간 후 학업을 지속하는 학업지속의 의지가 담긴 휴학과 전출을 제외하고, 제적과 자퇴를 중도탈락으로 정의하였다. 대학생의 중도탈락에 영향을 미치는 대학 요인을 분석하기 위해 교육부와 한국교육학술정보원에서 운영하고 있는 에듀데이터 서비스 시스템(EDSS : Edu Data Service System)을 통해 대학알리미 원시자료를 요청하여 분석에 활용하였다. 대학알리미에서 대학으로 분류된 학교 가운데 186개 대학을 최종 분석에 활용하였으며, 대학 평판도 및 교육·연구 활동, 대학 재정·교육비, 교육 여건 변인을 독립변수로 투입하여 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 입학전형 최종 등록률과 정원내 신입생 경쟁률이 높을수록 대학생 중도탈락률은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대학 재정 및 교육비 측면에서 살펴보면 학생 1인당 교육비가 높은 것은 학생의 중도탈락률을 낮추는데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대학의 교육 여건과 관련하여 기숙사 수용률은 대학생 중도탈락률을 낮추는 요인으로 분석되었으며, 전임교원 1인당 학생수가 많을수록 중도탈락률에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

This study aims to analyze the institutional factors affecting on college dropout rates. Among many types of college dropout, this study excludes stop-out and transfer. This study used data drawn primarily from the EDSS (Edu-Data Service System) of Korean Ministry of Education and Korea Education and Research Information Service. This study analyzed influence of institutional factors on college dropout rates using collected data from 186 four-year universities. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used for this analysis. The results are as follows. First, final enrollment rate and competition rate of applicant had positive influences on college dropout rates. Second, the educational cost per student is the financial factor that influence to reduce college dropout rates. Third, accommodation rate of dormitory had a positive influence on college dropout rates, while faculty-student ratio had a negative influence on college dropout rates. These findings are discussed and further studies on this topic are suggested.
