순수이성비판에서 일차적 현상과 이차적 현상의 구별 문제

Abstract

우리는 칸트의 순수이성비판에서 아직 범주의 매개 없이 시공간에 직접적으로 주어지는 직관을 일차적 현상, 범주와 매개된 직관을 소위 이차적 현상이라고 부를 수 있을 것이다. 일차적 및 이차적 현상은 직관과 범주 내지 개념의 관계에 의해 특징지어지는데, 이에 대한 칸트의 언급은 모순적으로 보인다. 그렇기 때문에 이에 대한 서로 상반된 해석이 제기된다. 그 중 하나는 개념과 매개되지 않은 직관의 현상이 가능하다는 주장이며, 다른 하나는 직관은 항상 이미 개념과 매개되어 있다는 주장이다. 전자를 나는 직관에 관한 비개념주의적 해석이라고 부르고 이러한 해석으로서 로스(P. Rohs)와 감각자료 이론을 소개한다. 후자를 나는 직관에 관한 개념주의적 해석이라고 부르고 여기에 셀라스(W. Sellars)와 맥다월(J. McDowell)의 해석을 포함시킨다. 비개념 주의적 해석에 따르면 일차적 현상이 가능하며, 일차적 현상은 이차적 현상의 토대가 된다. 개념주의적 해석은 이러한 해석을 소여의 신화에 빠져 있다고 비판하면서 오직 이차적 현상만이 가능하다고 한다. 나는 본 논문에서 이들의 상세한 논증을 검토한 뒤, 양자의 주장을 통해 각각 칸트가 추구했던 전체 구도에서 어떤 측면이 손상을 입게 되는지, 그럼에도 불구하고 어떤 측면을 견지하는것이 칸트의 정신을 계승하는 것인지를 제시하고자 한다.

We call the first appearance the intuition, which is immediately given without contact with categories, and the second appearance the intuition, which is determined by categories. The first and second appearance are characterized by the relation of intuition and categories or concepts, which ist mentioned by Kant inconsistently. For this reason the opposing interpretations of it are suggested. One of them maintains that the intuition is able to appear without concepts, but the other interpretation argues that the intuition has already been determined by categories. To the former belong the interpretation by P. Rohs and the theory of sense-data, to the latter the interpretation by W. Sellars and J. McDowell. According to intepretations of the first class the first appearance is not only possible, but also works as the basis of the second appearance. The interpretations of the second class maintain, however, that only the second appearance ist possible, accusing the interpretations of the first class of falling into the myth of the given. I analyse both sides of argumentations and evaluate which position gets more closer to the original thought of Kant.
