18세기 러시아 문학사의 몇몇 교재에 대하여

Abstract

이 글의 목적은 18세기 러시아 문학사를 서술한 몇몇 교재들에 대해 적절한 비평을 하는 것이다. 구코프스키(Г. А. Гуковский), 브라운(W. E. Brown), 리반(Н. И. Либан) 등이 저술한 책이 그 대상으로, 『18세기 러시아 문학사』라는 대부분의 제목이 암시하듯이 이들은 18세기 러시아 문학사를 강의하는 데 있어서는 물론 연구하는 데 있어서도 지표적인 성격의 교재들이다. 이 글에서는 위의 책들을 오늘날의 표준적인 교재들이 등장하기 이전의 몇몇 전형으로서 살펴보고자 하였다. 구코프스키의 책은 소비에트의 문학사 서술의 전형을 보여주고 있으며, 브라운의 책은 영어권 연구의 한 전형을 보여주고 있고, 리반의 책은 오늘날 문학과 사회사의 관계를 바라보는 시각을 보여주고 있다. 분석력, 정보제공에 있어서는 압도적인 이 책들은, 그러나 지나치게 소비에트 이념 지향적이라는 점(구코프스키), 반대로 브라운은 너무나 탈이념적이라는 점에 약점이 있다. 리반은 근대문학의 담론을 정식화한다는 점에서 장점이 있지만, 개개 작품에 대한 디테일과 정보 제공이라는 측면에서는 약점이 있다고 할 수 있다. 이를 보이기 위해 일부 주요 작가와 작품들에 대한 각 저서들의 시각들을 명확히 하고자 하였다. 이 서평은 국내의 러시아 18세기 문학사 연구와 강의에 미약하나마 실용적인 도움이 되고자 한다.

This paper aims to review 'textbooks,' which describe the history of the 18th century Russian literature. The authors of textbooks include Gukovskij (Г. А. Гуковский), W. E. Brown and Liban (Н. И. Либан). They seem to provide standard points of view in teaching the history of 18th Russian literature and in researching as well. This article mainly try to clarify the their narrative strategies for the history of the 18th century Russian literature. If Gukovskiys book shows the typical description of Soviet point of view on literary history, Browns book demonstrates a classic example in the West. Liban offers a recent academic view on the relationship between literature and society. To show this, we compare differences and common ground among those books through observing indexical litterateurs and literary works of the 18th century. This could help Korean scholars to teach and study the history of 18th century Russian literature.
