정보격차문제 하에서 이용자의 성격특성과 접근성이 디지털 리터러시에 미치는 영향 연구

dc.description.abstract지금까지 정부의 정보격차문제에 대한 접근은 정보통신기기와 서비스에 대한 접근성(accessibilities)의 확보중심으로 진행되었다. 기기와 서비스에 대한 접근성을 보장하는 정책들은 실제로 많은 성과를 이루었다. 그러나 접근성과 같은 기술 중심의 정보격차현상 이해는 분명한 한계점을 가지며 정보격차가 야기하는 결과의 차이를 이해하고 대응하기 위해서는 정보를 가진 자(haves)와 정보를 가지지 못한 자(have-nots)로 구분하는 이분법적인 접근을 넘어서 어떻게 활용하고 있는가? 즉 활용역량인 디지털 리터러시의 관점에서 보아야 한다.
본 연구에서는 정보격차에서 디지털 리터러시에 미치는 영향들에 대해서 성격특성과 접근성을 중심으로 분석하였다. 정보격차에 대한 연구관점의 변화를 따라 접근성에서 활용, 디지털 리터러시의 중요성을 확인한 다음 디지털 리터러시의 내부 구성요인(기술적 활용, 정보의 이용, 확산 및 생산, 사회관계 및 참여)와 외부 요인(이용자 개별 성격특성, 접근성)의 관계를 구조방정식을 통해서 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째. 이용자의 개인 성격특성은 디지털 리터러시와 접근성에 대해서 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 기술적 활용에 대한 개방성(-) 특성과 사회관계 및 참여에 대한 외향성(+), 신경성(-) 특성은 디지털 리터러시에 유의미한 직접효과를 미친다. 따라서 이용자의 성격특성이 제한적이지만 디지털 리터러시의 각 변수에 영향을 미치는 것을 연구를 통해서 확인하였다.
둘째. 이용자의 접근성은 디지털 리터러시에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 연구결과 기기 접근성, 서비스 접근성 모두 디지털 리터러시의 전 영역에 유의미한 직접효과를 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 정보의 이용 확산 및 생산과 사회관계 및 참여에 있어서는 서비스 접근성이 기기 접근성보다 더 큰 직접효과를 보이는 반면 기술적 활용에서는 기기 접근성이 더 큰 직접효과를 미치고 있다.
셋째. 이용자의 성격특성은 디지털 리터러시에 간접적인 영향을 미친다. 디지털 리터러시의 기술적 활용부분에 있어서 성격특성 모두 직접효과 보다 간접효과가 더 큰 것으로 확인되며 사회관계 및 참여 부분에서 성격특성의 간접효과 역시 개방성과 성실성, 호의성에서 직접효과보다 강하다. 앞서 디지털 리터러시에 대한 성격특성의 직접효과가 비록 제한적이나 간접효과를 고려하면 성격특성을 정보격차문제에서 중요한 변수임을 시사한다. 더불어 접근성의 매개효과 역시 중요한 변수로 고려되어야 한다.
넷째. 인구 사회적 조절변수에 따라서 디지털 리터러시와 접근성은 유의한 차이를 보이며 이는 정보격차를 야기하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서는 조절변수에 따른 분석을 통해서 성별과 연령, 소득, 지역에 따른 디지털 리터러시와 접근성의 유의미한 차이가 존재하는 것을 확인하였다. 정보격차구조의 연구에 있어서 인구 사회적 변수들은 여전히 중요한 변수이며 특히 본 연구의 결과와 같이 단순한 집단 간 격차뿐만 아니라 효과의 경로와 방향에 미치는 영향도 함께 고려해야 한다.
