dc.description.abstractThis study examines how decay in hubs creative capability and their inter-temporal changes influence performance in a creative field. Drawing on the literature on complex networks and the concept of knowledge recombination, I find that the proportion of hubs with decay in creative capability has curvilinear (i.e., inverted U-shaped) effect on creative performance in a network with static hubs – that is, a social system can reach the highest level of performance when few static hubs refrain from adopting new knowledge. This study also finds that a network with inter-temporal changes in hubs is resilient to such decay and consistently result in higher performance than a network with static hubs, since such changes serve as crucial access to knowledge diversity within the whole system.-
