Abstract
In this paper, we propose a method to measure the distribution of fuel in liquid and gaseous fuel flames by applying laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). It is noted that the ratio of the fuel to the air at the corresponding point can be known even if plasma is analyzed by selecting only two wavelengths (H: 656.3 nm, O: 777 nm) deeply involved in the equivalence ratio in the entire spectrum as a result of the conventional LIBS. LIBS plug, which is a miniaturized device with the purpose of measuring the fuel distribution inside the combustion chamber in real time, was developed and manufactured, and experiments were conducted to measure the distribution of hydrocarbon fuels as well as the occurrence of flames. In addition, experiments were conducted to create a two-dimensional fuel distribution in real time. In the two-phase gasoline spray fuel field, it was confirmed that several plasma were generated by one laser irradiation due to the difference of the breakdown threshold, and the plasma sheet was formed in the plane by using the strong laser energy. We confirmed the formation of multiple plasmas using a high-speed camera and obtained a two-dimensional H/O intensity ratio map.
