위로 행위의 결과물로 파생된 작업에 관한 연구

Abstract

생의 과정에서 발생하는 사건들이 슬픔이나 기쁨과 같은 커다란 수준의 감정이입을 불러일으킨다면, 그것들은 논리적인 인과관계에 따라 이해되기보다, 어떤 종류의 이미지로 마음속에 새겨지곤 한다.

그 이미지들은 너무 깊게 새겨져서 자연스럽게 반복적으로 그것들에 대해 생각하게 되고, 그 생각은 일상생활을 유지할 수 없을 정도로 마음에 가득 차 버리게 된다. 이는 과거의 경험으로 돌아가는 것이며, 동시에 과거의 경험에 개입할 수 없는 현재에 속해 있는 본인을 확인하는 것이다. 이러한 이룰 수 없는 과거로의 회귀의 열망은 좌절감과 허무함을 남겨놓는다.

그러나 그 열망은 과거의 사건의 이미지에 간절한 소망을 불어넣어 변형시킬 수 있는 원동력으로 작용한다. 그리고 그 변형된 이미지가 재창조되어 현실에 존재하는 작품으로 만들어진다면, 그것은 단순히 본인의 소망이 반영된 상에 그치지 않고 새로운 현실이 된다. 이 현실은, 그 자체로 혹은 그것이 만들어지는 과정 속에서 좌절감을 달래줄 뿐 아니라, 현실을 떠받치며 현재를 살아갈 수 있게 한다.

발생했던 사건을 받아들임에 있어, 본인의 욕망과 바람이 반영된 풍경을 있는 그대로 드러내고자 하는 의지는 또 다른 풍경을 실재하게 한다. 그것은 본인의 소망이 담긴, 본인만을 위로하는 현실이 아니다. 그것은 보편적인 의미를 가지고 보여 질 수 있는 현실이다.

If what happened in the course of my life had caused strong emotions such as sadness and happiness, it must not have been understood by my reason, but carved within my mind as some sort of image.

It was so deeply engraved in my mind that I could not help but think about it over and over again. It would fill my heart with its thoughts so much as not to let me sustain my life. This means that I did find myself in the present, where I could not participate in my past experience, even though I tried to. As such, my futile attempt to return to the past left me to my frustration and emptiness.

However, it gave me a drive to transform the image of the past, in accordance with my wishes. And if that transformed image was recreated as a work of art, it would become a new reality, not just an image of my wishes. The reality, in itself or in the course of its making, would console my frustration, while empowering me to sustain my life.

In accepting what happened, it is possible to exist another scene which is the will to expose itself reflected to my desire and hope. It is not the reality only for myself. It is one that can be seen with universal meaning in it.
