양주별산대놀이 반주 음악 연구

Abstract

본고에서는 로버트 가피아스의 자료를 통하여 1960년대 양주별산대놀이 반주 음악을 살펴보았다. 피리를 중심으로 장단과 선율, 그리고 선율구조를 연구하였으며, 또한 현행 반주 음악과 비교해보았다. 그 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다.

첫째, 자료의 과장명을 밝혔다. 그리고 반주에 사용된 장단 중 5박 장단은 현행 <염불> 장단에 해당하고, 4박 장단은 현행 <타령> 장단에 해당함을 밝혔다.

둘째, 각 음악에서 나타나는 음군을 찾아내고 그 기능을 밝혔다. <염불>은 라솔 음군, 도솔 음군, 레솔 음군, 미솔 음군, 레미 음군, 그리고 (레)도솔 음군, (미레)도솔 음군으로 이루어져 있다. 그리고 <타령 I>은 레미 음군, 레솔 음군으로, <타령 II>는 도솔 음군, 미솔 음군으로 이루어져 있다.

셋째, 음군에 따른 선율구조를 분석하고, 단락 형성원리를 밝혔다. <염불>은 라솔 음군이 단락을 시작하고, 도솔 음군, 레솔 음군, 미솔 음군이 선율을 형성하며, 레미 음군이 단락을 마친다. <타령 I>은 레미 음군이 단락을 시작하고 레솔 음군이 선율을 구성하며, 다시 레미 음군이 단락을 마친다. <타령 II>는 도솔 음군과 미솔 음군이 선율을 형성하며, 다른 기능의 음군은 없다.

넷째, 현행 반주 음악과 비교하여 공통점과 차이점을 살펴보았다. 장단은 빠르기는 달랐으나 형태는 유사하다. 염불 장단 반주 음악에서 공통적으로 라솔 음군, 도솔 음군, 레솔 음군, 레미 음군, (레)도솔 음군이 나타났다. 또한 두 음악의 구조에서도 공통점이 나타났다.

이처럼 1960년대 양주별산대놀이 반주 음악을 연구하여 선율의 특징과 구조를 알아보았다. 그리고 현행 반주 음악과의 비교를 통해 두 음악의 밀접한 연관성을 확인하였다. 1960년대 양주별산대놀이 반주 음악은 치밀하고 완성도 있는 구성을 가진 음악이며, 현행 반주 음악과 많은 공통점이 나타난다.

A Study of the Accompaniment for Yangju Byeolsandae Nori

This thesis investigates the 1960s accompaniment for yangju byeolsandae nori using Robert Garfias archival collection. I examine its jangdan (rhythmic pattern), melody, and melodic structure focusing on piri and compare this to the current accompaniment. The results are following.

First, I investigate the section found in the collection. Among the jangdan used in the accompaniment, 5-beat jangdan corresponds to the current <yeombul> jangdan while the 4-beat jangdan corresponds to the current <taryeong> jangdan.

Second, I examine tonal groups in each piece and their roles. <Yeombul> consists of la-sol, do-sol, re-sol, mi-sol, re-mi, (re)-do-sol, and (mi-re)-do-sol tonal groups. <Taryeong I> consists of re-mi and re-sol tonal groups, and <Taryeong II> consists of do-sol and mi-sol tonal groups.

Third, I analyze melodic structures in regard to tonal groups and show how each section was formed. In <Yeombul>, ra-sol tonal group opens a section, do-sol, re-sol, and mi-sol tonal groups form a melody, and re-mi tonal group ends the section. In <Taryeong I>, re-mi tonal group opens a section, re-sol tonal group forms a melody, and re-mi tonal group ends the section. In <Taryeong II>, do-sol and mi-sol tonal groups form a melody and there are no other tonal groups playing different roles.

Fourth, I compare the 1960s accompaniment to that of the present and demonstrate similarities and differences between the two. Although the tempo of jangdan is different, its pattern is similar. In the accompaniment for <Yeombul>, la-sol, do-sol, re-sol, re-mi, and (re)-do-sol tonal groups are used in common. Also the structures of the two are similar.

In conclusion, I investigate the characteristics of melody and its structure of the accompaniment for 1960s yangju byeolsandae nori. The accompaniment for yangju byeolsandae nori in the 1960s had a neatly organized structure and shows many similarities with the current accompaniment.
