중세 한국어 부사격 조사 비실현에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 중세 한국어 시기에 부사격 조사가 비실현되는 것을 확인하고 그 환경을 면밀하게 밝히는 데에 목적이 있다. 한국어의 부사격 조사는 원칙적으로 비실현되는 것이 불가능한 것으로 파악되거나, 구조격 조사에 비해 상대적으로 비실현되는 것이 제한되는 것으로 인식되어 왔다. 이러한 이유로 제한적인 환경에서만 확인되는 현대 한국어의 부사격 조사 비실현형들은 예외적인 것으로 처리되곤 했다. 그런데 현대 한국어 문장이라면 부사격 조사 없이는 비문이 되거나 어색한 것으로 처리될 문장이 중세 한국어 문헌에서는 부사격 조사를 결합하지 않은 채로 나타나는 것이 다수 확인된다. 본고에서는 일차적으로 중세 한국어 문헌에서 확인되는 부사격 조사 비실현형을 확보하고 그 환경을 구체적으로 검토함으로써, 중세 한국어 시기에 부사격 조사가 비실현되는 환경이 현대 한국어에 비해 넓었다는 것을 확인하는 데에 중점을 두었다. 이에 더해 중세 한국어 시기에 부사격 조사가 비실현되는 환경이 보이는 공통점을 바탕으로 부사격 조사가 비실현될 수 있었던 원인을 파악하는 데에 중점을 두어 논의를 진행하였다. 제2장에서는 한국어의 격(格·case)에 대한 기존의 연구들을 검토하고, 격이 명사구가 핵과 맺는 문법적인 관계를 표시하는 체계임을 확인하였다. 또한 한국어의 주된 격 표시 방식은 정격인 격조사라는 것을 확인하고, 격조사 가운데 부사격 조사는 명사구와 핵이 맺는 문법적인 관계를 표시해 주는 기능 이외에 의미역을 표시하는 기능도 겸하고 있다는 것을 살펴보았다. 또한 중세 한국어 시기 부사격 조사의 형태를 검토하고, 각 부사격 조사가 표시하는 의미역 목록을 확인하였다. 제3장에서는 제2장에서 다룬 이론적 논의를 바탕으로 중세 한국어 문헌에서 부사격 조사가 비실현되는 예들을 확인하고 그 환경을 구체적으로 검토하였다. 부사격 조사 비실현형이 확인되는 서술어 목록, 명사구가 부여받은 의미역에 따른 격조사 결합 양상, 격조사 비실현형과 격조사 실현형의 차이, 부사격 조사와 목적격 조사의 격조사 교체 여부, 격조사가 결합하지 않은 명사구의 분포 등을 검토하였다. 이를 통해 중세 한국어 시기에 부사격 명사구가 부사격 조사 없이도 문장을 이룰 수 있는 환경이 현대 한국어에 비해 넓었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 부사격 조사가 비실현되는 문장들의 공통점을 추출하여 어떠한 특징을 보이는지 기술하였다. 제4장에서는 제3장에서 추출한 부사격 조사 비실현 환경의 공통적인 특징을 바탕으로 중세 한국어 시기에 부사격 조사가 비실현될 수 있었던 원인이 어디에 있었는지를 밝히고자 했다. 크게 언어 내적인 원인과 언어 외적인 원인으로 나누어서 살펴보았다. 언어 내적인 원인으로는 부사격 조사가 결합하지 않은 명사구가 해당 문장의 핵인 서술어의 필수 논항이라는 점, 부사격 조사가 결합하지 않은 명사구가 서술어에 인접하여 위치함으로써 서술어의 의미 특징으로부터 영향을 받을 수 있었다는 점, 둘 이상의 논항 명사구에 격조사가 결합하지 않은 경우 서술어가 갖는 전형적인 어순으로 배열됨으로써 격과 의미역이 표시되었다는 점 등을 제시하였다. 언어 외적인 원인으로는 중세 한국어 문헌이 기본적으로 문헌에 기록된 문어 자료임에도 장문성, 단형 부정문 등의 구어적·구술적인 특징을 확인할 수 있는데, 부사격 조사의 비실현도 중세 한국어 문헌이 갖는 구어적·구술적인 특징의 반영으로 볼 수 있음을 제시하였다. 제5장에서는 본고에서 논의한 내용을 정리하고, 미진했던 부분을 남은 과제로 제시하며 마무리하였다.

It has been believed that the non-realization of the adverbial case markers in Korean are either impossible or limited compared to structural case marker. For this reason, non-realization of the adverbial case markers in Modern Korean that are only found in the limited environment have been treated as exceptions. In Middle Korean, however, there are some examples showing that the non-realization of the adverbial case markers was possible. The aim of this paper is to examine the environments of non-realization of the adverbial case markers in the Middle Korean. In Chapter 2, through reviewing previous studies, the case was defined as the grammatical relations of noun phrases with the predicates. It is also demonstrated that the case is mostly represented by the realization of the case markers(postpositional particle in Korean), and the adverbial case markers also serve as the thematic-role markers in addition to the case mark function. In Chapter 3, environments of the non-realization of the adverbial case markers in Middle Korean literature were examined in detail; The list of predicates of sentences where the adverbial case markers are not realized, pattern of realizations of case markers according to the thematic-role assigned to the noun phrases, difference between non-realization and realization of the adverbial case markers, possibility of replacing the adverbial case marker with the objective case marker, and distribution of the bare noun phrases - noun phrases without case markers - were examined. The results showed that the environment in which the adverbial case markers were not realized was wider than that of Modern Korean in Middle Korean. And the common features of the sentences in which the adverbial case markers are not realized are described. Chapter 4 attempted to find out what caused the adverbial case markers to not be realized in the Middle Korean. It seems that there are both linguistic and extralinguistic causes. The linguistic factors include; first, essential arguments of the predicate that is the head of the sentence is the bare noun phrase, second, the bare noun phrases may be influenced by the semantic features of the predicates. When two or more arguments are bare noun phrases, the case and thematic-role of them are identified by their arrangement in the typical word-order of the predicate. The extralinguistic factor could be the colloquial style of Middle Korean literature. This can be confirmed by the fact that the number of non-realization of the adverbial case markers differs according to the literature, and that more non-realization of the adverbial case markers appear in the literature containing more colloquial language. Chapter 5 summarizes the contents discussed in this paper, and concludes with the remaining tasks.
