니체와 엘리아데의 영원회귀사상 비교: 시간관과 운명관을 중심으로

Abstract

Ouroboros, which is shaped as a snake biting its tail, is a famous symbol of antiquity. It means that the beginning and the end exist at the same time, and each one stands for one another. The best name that represents this ancient symbol of various meanings may be "eternal return." There are two scholars who are famous for their ideas of eternal returnMircea Eliade and Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. There is a considerable difference between their critical minds and explanations, except that the core terms that form the backbone of their thoughts give us a similar feeling. Nevertheless, there are not many previous studies comparing these two concepts in my country, so I will try to compare them in this paper. This comparison will be meaningful as a new attempt to help us better understand the core ideas of the two thinkers. For comparison, I refer to the core writings of the two thinkers- Eliade's Le Mythe de l'éternel retour, and Nietzsche's Also sprach Zarathustra. We should pay particular attention to 1) how time and destiny are connected, and 2) how two thinkers' standpoints of time and destiny overlap with subtle differences.
