Recently, daily-deal sites, starting with Groupon, have attracted a lot of Internet traffics. Daily deals are sold in a coupon format through daily-deal sites with usually more than fifty percent discount. For deals to be on, it requires the predetermined minimum number of buyers to commit to purchase, and once deals are on, all purchasers have the same time window for redeeming coupons. In this paper we use consumer-level panel data from one of the major daily-deal sites in Korea to analyze how consumers change their purchase and redemption behaviors as they become more experienced. We nd that more experienced consumers tend to buy before deals are turned on. We argue that this is evidence that consumers become less dependent on other people's commitment. This implies that consumers care about their own utilities rather than a social utility. A utility-maximizing individual should not care how many people have committed to buy at the time of her click because there is no extra benet of waiting for a deal to be turned on. We also find that more experienced consumers tend to redeem their coupons later. This finding suggests that consumers dislike congestion in redeeming coupons and try to avoid it in their next redemptions.-
