The origin of unbeatable fortitude of Jeju women can be found in Manduk Kim

who was the female tycoon in the late Chosun dynasty.

Manduk Kim, born in 18th century in Jeju, overcame the limit of low status of

social hierarchy though she led to a degraded life. In stead of leading a common life

as any women, she made a great fortune by exerting a extraordinary business talent.

She became a generous charitable person who readily gave her all the money she

made to society for the poor of Jeju. She, challenging the bondage of the feudal

hierarchy, was one of the greatest philanthropists acting up to her principles.

This paper investigates the literature on the life of Manduk Kim, focussing on her

achievements from the view of management history.
