This paper examines several aspects of the changes that occurred in the field of female labor during the early period of the post-socialist transition in the Czech Republic. Changes in the distribution of female labor among economic sectors and changes in women"s income level and unemployment rate are the main aspects that this study deals with. During the first half of the 1990s there occurred some changes in the distribution of female labor among economic sectors, mainly due to the structural transformation of the Czech economy. Despite this fact, both the horizontal and vertical job segregation and inequality between men and women that existed in the communist period was maintained up until the mid-1990s. Female workers were still concentrated in the economic sectors of low income. In addition, as the structural transformation process goes on, female workers become more vulnerable to unemployment than male workers-
