- Abstract
- In 1727, the first academy on Korean Language was built in Tchushima, Japan. The builder was Hoshu Amenomori (1668-1755) who had worked for Tchushima provincial government on diplomatic issues with Joseon. He edited several books for learning Korean, including Korean novels such as . was a basic text in The Academy on Korean Language in Tchushima. was one of the best reading textbook for learning Korean, because it has a lot of short dialogues and basic Korean words. Also shows the usual thoughts of Joseon people. and is somewhat different from . Among almost a thousand kinds of Joseon novels, just several works show the understanding of the foreign country of Joseon people, and the two works show the opposite understanding, so they can be the best way to understanding Joseon people's thought on the foreign country. shows the nationalistic thought of Joseon people, and shows the respect on the China, the discrimination on the China and the other country(華夷觀). The two show the both sides of understanding of the foreign country of Joseon people. Japanese could get the understanding of Joseon through the Joseon novels. Sometimes the understanding was well-balanced, sometimes it was not. Finally the bias of Japanese broke the peace in the East Asia in late 19th century.
