스피노자의 자연학에서 가장 단순한 물체 : ｢자연학 소론｣의 전반부 분석

Abstract

스피노자는 ｢자연학 소론｣에서 가장 단순한 물체라는 개념에서 시작하여, 물체의 본성을 해명하려 하고 있다. 그런데 이 가장 단순한 물 체는 스피노자 연구자들 사이에 많은 논쟁을 불러온 개념이다. 이 논문에 서는 이 개념을 데카르트 자연학과의 비교를 통해 검토해 볼 것이다. 이 때 우리는 스피노자 자연학의 독특성보다는 이 두 사상 간의 유사성에 주 목하려 한다. 이 글의 논증하려는 바는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스피노자의 자 연학은 데카르트의 운동 개념을 수용한 운동학적(kinetic) 기계론이다. 둘 째, ｢자연학 소론｣의 전반부는 가장 단순한 물체만이 아니라 모든 물체에 적용되는 법칙에 대한 기술이다. 셋째, 가장 단순한 물체는 데카르트의 완전히 단단한 물체와 유사한 개념으로, 이는 내ㆍ외적 관계에 대한 지적 추상의 결과이다. 넷째, ｢자연학 소론｣의 이 같은 방법은 인간이 자신의 유한성을 극복하려는 시도이지만, 제 3종의 인식과는 달리 한계를 지닌다. In The Short Treatise on Physics, Spinoza seeks a general nature of physical things that depart from the simplest body, which has been a controversial concept among Spinoza researchers. In order to elucidate this concept, this paper compares Spinozas physics to the Cartesian concept, focusing on their similarities rather than their differences. The main assertions are as follows: First, Spinozas physics belongs to a kinetic mechanism based on the Cartesian concept of motion Second, the first part of The Short Treatise on Physics describes the laws applicable to every physical thing, not only to the simplest body Third, the simplest body is similar to the Cartesian concept of the perfectly sold body, which is derived from an intellectual abstraction of the exterior and interior relationships Fourth, these findings show that the method of The Short Treatise on Physics is devised as a means of overcoming human finitude restrictively.
