- Abstract
- The Mexican unionized labor movement has been subjected to state control since the 1920s through the post-revolutionary interventionist state ideology and political arrangements between labor and state bureaucracies. Organized labor has largely contributed to industrial development and economic growth by collaborating with the state. Workers' demands in times of economic crisis and challenges from independent unions have been dealt with through prestaciones or fringe benefits provided by the state and selective cooptation and suppression of opposition labor leaders, which reinforced the subjugation of labor to the state economic policies.
