Abstract

This article was designed to review the objectives and contents of Politics-Economy" as one subject of High School Social Studies. The objectives of High School Social Studies are to develop 1) the knowledge of structure and function of our society, 2) the ability of problem-solving and decision-making, 3) the social skills and attitudes to participate in and contribute to the development of democratic society. In view of these general objectives, the following objectives should be emphasized on educating the democratic citizenship in Politics-Economy". First, to understand the political life in our democratic society and the attitudes of observing democratic creeds, so as to dedicate to the development of democracy and welfare-state. Second, to develop the knowledge of law, so as to be a law-abiding democratic citizen. Third, to understand the fundamental principles of economics, so as to contribute to the national economic development, with synthetic understanding of characteristics and problems of Korean economy. According to. these objectives above, the structarized ideas of political science and economics should be instructed, emphasizing on the ability of problem-solving and enquiry skills.
