Abstract
Since long our society has been suffering from moral problems and crises. These are due to the loss of the moral control system which most Korean family systems had in the past. So, children have difficulties in solving moral problems. However, there has been no moral education program which aimed to improve children's moral thinking and judgement. It is why this study has attempted to develop Moral Education Program for Family Use (MEPF). The MEPF is based on the Kohlbergian frame of theories in moral development and education. According to Kohlberg, moral development is facilitated not by indoctrination, but by discussion and real socio-moral experiences. The MEPF is to provide such discussion opportunities and environment. The main features of MEPF are as follows: First, the MEPF is devised for mothers and fathers with children from ten years old and up. Second, the MEPF is composed of moral stories and issues frequently occurring at home, school, and society settings. The materials of the MEPF include reading materials, dilemmas stories, video tapes and game modules. Third, the MEPF can be used for twenty weeks, two sessions a week. Several suggestions are necessary for the better use of the MEPF. First of all, parents must recognize the necessity of moral education at home. Second, parents using the MEPF should be persevering in making discussing climate at home. Third, parents should be able to devise and accustomed to moral discussion materials by themselves.
