Abstract

The purpose of this study was to introduce the department of Biology Education at Seoul National University and to promote active communication and share materials and information on biology education among biology educators. For this purpose, an internet World Wide Web Site on the department was developed and enrolled in 9 internet search engines. The web site consists of 207 HTML documents and 41 graphic files, whose total data size is 11.2MB. Its URL address is http://plaza.snu.ac.kr/~bioedu/index.html. The home page of the web site has 7 main menu, which are Introduction, Curriculum, Faculty, Laboratories, Biology Education Forum, Bulletin Board, and Alumni. Introduction reads on the purpose and history of the department. Curriculum shows curricula of undergraduates and graduates, and course syllabuses. It also contains revised curriculum and rules. Faculty introduces professors' teaching subjects and research results. Laboratory introduces 5 research laboratories: Biology Education lab, Ecology lab, Developmental Biology lab, Cell Biology lab, and Genetics lab. Biology Education Forum and Bulletin Board were developed for encouraging communication and sharing educational materials and ideas among pre-service and in-service biology teachers, biology teacher educators, and other biology education related persons. Alumni contains information on the staff of alumni association and alumni newsletters.
