모종삼의 주희 비판과 그에 대한 재평가

Abstract

이 글은 주희에 대한 모종삼의 견해를 주로 살펴보고 그것에 대한 비판적인 견해를 제시하고자 한다. 모종삼은 거의 모든 부분에서 주희를 비판하고 있다. 주희를 별자로 인정한다고 하지만 내용을 보면 부정하고 있는 셈이다. 필자가 보기에 모종삼은 역시 근대화론자이다. 중국이 처한 근현대 상황을 볼 때, 중국은 서구 열강에 뒤쳐졌다. 중국대 서구를 주희대 칸트로 보고자 한 것이다. 그래서 칸트적인 사고에 비추어 주희적인 사고를 비판하고자 했던 것이다. 그렇다고 완전히 칸트를 인정한 것은 아니다. 칸트를 넘어서는 사고가 중국에 있다는 것으로 근대를 넘어서고자 한다. 이는 양명학에서 논의가 된다. 이러한 점은 모종삼의 근대를 넘어서려는 눈물겨운 노력의 산물이라고 할 수 있다. 칸트는 어쨌거나 인식론적인 사고틀을 벗어나지 못한 것으로 간주된다. 이러한 측면에서 도덕적인 사고를 하였지만 부족한 것으로 간주된다. 어쨌든 그에게 주희는 전근대적인 사고였던 것이다. 특히 칸트적인 입장에서 볼 때, 자율적인 도덕이 아니라 타율적인 사고였던 것이다. 여기에 근대를 벗어나는 사고입장에서 볼 때, 주희의 사고는 순수하게 인식론적인 사고였던 것이다. 인식론적이고 타율적인 사고라는 틀로 주희를 묶어두려는 것이다. 이는 주희에게도 정당한 평가가 아니다. 주희는 근대적인 사고로 규정할 수 없다. 오히려 탈 근대적인 사고로 이해할 수 있는 측면이 있다. 모종삼에게는 주희의 원래 사고는 의미가 없다. 철저한 비판만이 필요했을 뿐이다. In, this paper, the writer presents critical opinions against Mo Zong San's view of Zhu Xi. Mo Zong San criticised Zhu Xi in almost all areas. He recognizes Zhu Xi as a different person; however he denys Zhu Xi in the contents. The writer thought Mo Zong San was modernized. (This sentence seems to come abruptly after the previous sentence and seems a bit out of place.) He thought that China was behind the western world powers in modern times and compared China to the West as Zhu Xi to Kant. Then, with Kant's thought, he criticized Zhu Xi. However, he did not recognize Kant completely. He tried to go over modernism insisting there was the thought over Kant. That is Yang Ming. (I am not sure what this means.) This is a result of Mo Zong San's painstaking effort which cross over modernism(I do not understand what is meant by this.). He thought Kant could not free himself from the theory of epistemology. In this aspect, Kant thought morally, but there was a lack of such moral thought. At any rate, to him, Zhu Xi showed a premodern way of thinking. Especially in Kant's stance, Zhu Xi's morals were not self-regulating but were heteronomic thoughts. In the stance of crossing over modernism, Zhu Xi's thought was purely a theory of epistemology.
