인식(認識)의 현상학 －카시러(E. Cassirer)에게서 인식론과 문화과학의 관계를 중심으로－

Abstract

이 글은 우리에게 마르부르크 신칸트학파의 대표적인 인물이자 문화철학자로 알려진 에른스트 카시러(Ernst Cassirer 1874∼1945)의 인식론의 얼개와 그 특징을 밝혀내고, 그의 문화철학의 핵심 주제인 상징(象徵) 개념 및 문화과학과의 관련성을 드러내는 데 목표가 있다. 그러니까 우리의 관심은 카시러의 표현대로 인식(認識)의 현상학과 상징과의 관계에 있다. 필자는 이 문제를 지각(知覺) 현상, 공간(空間) 인식, 진리(眞理) 개념의 성격에 국한하여 논의하였다. 카시러는 인식론의 논의를 통해서 궁극적으로 문화과학의 내적 논리를 제시하고자 하였다. 자연과학이 자연현상을 계산하고 설명하고 지배하기 위해서 추상(抽象)에 의존한다면, 문화과학은 예술, 역사 지식, 그리고 인간학의 기초에 놓여 있는 기본개념들을 분석한다. 이를 통해 개인의 행동이나 역사적 사건 등을 보다 깊게 이해할 수 있도록 해준다. This article aims to elucidate the structure and characteristics of epistemology in Ernst Cassirer (1875~1945), who was well known as a neo-Kantian philosopher of culture. And we will focus on the relationship concept of Symbol and Cultural Science in Cassirer's Phenomenology of Knowledge. For this discussion, we will deal with the phenomena of perception, cognition of space, and concept of truth in terms of natural science and cultural science. Cassirer attempts to suggest the logic of cultural science through his Phenomenology of Knowledge. Cultural Science analyses fundamental concepts under arts, historical knowledge, and anthropology.
