여성교육과 부부갈등의 관련양상 연구 - ｢유씨삼대록｣을 중심으로 -

Abstract

조선시대에 산출되기 쉬운 여성상은 어떤 모습이었을까? 조선시대 교훈서를 통해 당대 여성들에게 지속적으로 주입되었던 이상적인 여성이란 자신의 절개를 지킬 줄 아는 추상같은 엄격함과, 자신을 표현하기를 자제할 줄 아는 과묵함과, 잠자리에서조차 단정할 줄 아는 무게감을 갖춘 여성이라고 말할 수 있다. 이러한 여성은 간략하게 정숙한 여성이라 표현할 수 있다. 이러한 정숙한 여성은 자기 절제 능력이 뛰어난데 특히 성적 욕망과 관련해서는 이를 거부하거나 부끄럽게 여기도록 지속적으로 교육받았다. 이들 여성들을 객관적인 시각에서 논의하자면, 이념의 과잉을 보이면서 정념의 결핍을 보이는 여성이라 할 수 있겠다. 이에 따라 당대 여성교육을 통해 산출될 수 있는 정숙한 여성상은 긍정적인 측면도 적지 않지만, 한편으로 여성을 옭맬 수 있는 덫이 될 수있었다. 행장, 제문 등의 공식적 문헌에서는 이에 관한 내용을 쉽게 볼 수 없지만, 비공식적 담론이라 할 수 있는 고전소설, 특히 조선후기 미시생활사라 할 만큼 당대 일상을 섬세하게 재현해내고 있는 대하소설에서는 이에 관한 내용들이 비중 있게 서술되고 있다. 이에 대해 부부갈등의 양상이 다채로울 뿐만 아니라, 당대 상층 사대부가의 실제적인 삶의 구현에 충실한 ｢ 유씨삼대록｣ 을 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 대하소설에는 정숙한 아내와 군자형 남편이 갈등을 야기하는 사건이 종종 등장한다. 이 중 ｢ 유씨삼대록｣ 은 정숙한 아내와 군자형 남편 간의 부부갈등담이 다양한 사례를 통해 첨예하게 전개되고 있다는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 여기에는 두 사람의 기질 문제도 일정 정도 관여되어 있지만, 당대 여성교육이 지니는 문제점이 깊이 노정되어 있다는 점에서 주 목을 요한다. 본고에서는 ｢ 유씨삼대록｣ 을 중심으로 여성교육과 부부갈등과의 관련양상을 고찰해 보기로 한다. This thesis is a study on the relationship between the education of women and couple conflict. We could observe that, in fact, virtuous women, the feminine ideal suggested in the education of the time, were more likely to cause conflict in conjugal relations. The education of women in the late Chosun dynasty had the social aspect of retaining the male-centric patriarchal system. The image of the female warrior or insensitive sterile women were the real state of women in the education of the time. The education of women of the time had prejudiced aspects and resulted in negative effects with regard to conflict in conjugal relations. In literary works women are described as follows. To men, de-standard women, not trained in the education of women, are more easy beings than taciturn, unadaptable and faithful women. Tender flirtatious women are more charming beings than solemn and virtuous women. And women with an outgoing and gallant air are more interactive beings than women with limited education. Due to the hidden side of the situation of the time, virtuous women underwent many difficulties and this was not the problem of one person, but of the education of women of the time. In terms of this, Yussisamdaerok is worthy of notice in that it catchs that subtle conflicts in conjugal relations are intimately related to the education of women of the time, and moreover it shows many interesting affairs sequentially.
