Abstract
In Jubangmun(酒方文), the letter ᄨ was used as shown in the word like . An examination of the historical Korean literature shows that this letter only began to appear in the mid of the 18th century, and this gives us an initial hint as to the writing period of Jubangmun.

In Jubangmun, the palatalization process of t>ʧ(ㄷ>ㅈ) amounts to 23.8%, totalling its presence in the word-initial and non-initial positions. Comparing this ratio to that of Seouls literature published in the 18th century, we confirm that the record era of Jubangmun was around the mid of the eighteenth century.

The change of sk>kk(ㅺ>ㄲ) at the final consonant clusters in a declinable word also confirms this, since such a changing process has occurred more widely in Jubangmun than in Eumsikdimibang, [which was written in the early eighteenth century.]

The vowel change ʌ>ɨ(·>ㅡ) has been detected to occur in Jubangmun. However, the vowel change ʌ>a(·>k) has not. This indicates that the vowel ʌ(·) was still a distinctive sound in the vowel system in the period when Jubangmun was written. This again shows its record status not being in the very last period of the 18th century.

In Jubangmun a change like ani>ai(아니-<아이-), in which the nasal n was deleted in front of the vowel i in the non-initial word, is detected. n-deletion of this sort began to appear in the early 18th century Yeongnam literature and Gaesucheophaesineo(改修捷解新語), a Seoul literature published in 1748.

Based on the above observations, I conclude that the record period of Jubangmun dates as back as to early eighteenth century(about 1700-1735). This conclusion should be invariable irrespective of the dialectal backgrounds of Jugangmun whether it is Gyeongang- or other dialects in southern area of Korea. The crucial piece of evidence for this conclusion comes from the presence of 아이-[ai](presumably with a slightly nasalized vowel i) in Jubangmun, the original form of which had been 아니-[ani].
