| dc.description.abstract | Recently, there has been a growing awareness of the relationship between income distribution and fertility. It has been argued that the level of fertility may be affected by the distribution of income, apart from average level of income (R. Freedman, 1974). Kocher (1973), Rich (1973), and Bhattacharyya (1973, 1975) suggested in their cross-national studies that fertility is positively associated with income inequality. Repetto (1974, 1978, 1979) also found a positive effect of income inequality on the level of individual as well as aggregate fertility. | - |
