The present study is, in its nature, a preliminary exploration of a new field rather than a thorough investigation of the phenomenon shown by the title of this paper. The terms such as borrowing and loan-words are intentionally avoided on the ground that although most of the word items dealt here are undoubtedly borrowings from Chinese, some others may have followed the opposite direction. The so-called Sino-Korean words, though abundant in Modern Korean, are out of the present concern here. The period covered by the early stages is the one with unknown breadth prior to the establishment of Sino-Korean sound values for Chinese characters, presumably in Ancient Korean.ko_KR
