Negation is a controversial area of Korean syntax that has recently drawn considerable attention, particularly from native generative grammarians. Various analyses have been proposed, but all of these fail to capture the fact that the variable behavior of negation depends on certain constraints that are regular and predictable. ' This study is an attempt to throw some light on the nature of these constraints and to show that the variability is a natural result of a set of different but related rules.ko_KR
