- Abstract
- The entropy, that is, the average information density of a symbol set being greater in
a symbol set with more symbols, we have every interest of keeping the Chinese ideograms mixed with Hangul alphabet. The former gives the rapid indexing feature which is most desirable in the coming information society. Also the decrease in Korean vocabulary caused by the recent tendency of avoiding the Chinese characters accentuates the decrease of the entropy because those young, knowing not chinese-origined specialized terms, have the inclination of using frequent words more frequent1y in order to avoid the more difficult ones thus rendering the Zipfs curve steeper.
More education of national level is necessary for the sake of keeping the already developed terms of each field as well as the sake of training the poeple in the syntactic and pro-semantic control of spaces between lexemes" even in sacrifice of so called national language purification" in the word level in favor of clearer undestanding in semantic levels. Measure of certainty" is proposed as the negative entropy (negentropy) of an expression or word as a seperate notion than the term entropy as the average information density or mutual information of a communication channel. Too frequent spaces between lexemes" system which is in actual usage is criticized as they have the tendency of hiding the function of the space as the punctuation symbols and rendering a sentence more difficult to understand in the semantic level.
