農村小都邑의 定住體系 確立과 機能活性化를 위한 理論的 論究

Abstract

This study deals with nodal centers which are rurally oriented small towns, namely parish seats. This small size rural centers are mostly the central places of the rural areas in Korea. For the past two decades of the national economic growth, the fast industrialization and urbanization process were not positively related to the development for the small towns in rural areas. The centrality and the role of the small towns as rural community center are poor and even declined. The main interest of this study is to consider and find some planning strategies to enforce the role of the present settlement function of the rurally oriented small towns. For this purpose, this study discusses a theoretical consideration of how to enhance small town's function and also to restructure the rural settlement system in the context of policy making for rural-urban integration strategies. Problems of rurally oriented small towns: One of the main problems is the number of the lowest order of small towns. It reflects unnecessary over crowdeness not only in the number but also in spacing aspect at the present development of the national settlement system. The second problem is that the rurally oriented small towns are too small to sustain their central function because of their poor holding population in terms of tereshold size.
