노인문제에 대한 지리학적 고찰

Abstract

노인문제에 대한 지리학적 고찰. 이 논문은 노화와 노인의 지리학적 측면을 고찰한다. 이 논문의 목적은 사회노년학 분야에 대한 여태까지의 지리학연구를 검토하고 더 나아가 지리학연구에서의 문제점을 제시하는 것이다. 지리학적 관점에서 노화 및 노인과 관련된 주제와 접근 방법은 크게 세 분야로 분류될 수 있다. 먼저 노화가 진행되면서 주변환경에 대한 상호관계와 인식이 변화하고 공간적 행태도 달라지는데, 이 주제는 특히 인간주의적, 경험적 접근방법에 의해 해석되어진다. 둘째로 첫 번째에서 언급한 변화과정의 결과로 나타나게 되는 노인의 분포와 이동을 기술하고 설명하는 공간분석적인 방법이 있다. 셋째로 노인복지적인 측면에서 각종 주택 및 서비스를 형평성있게 배분하는 문제를 다루게 되는데, 이는 정책적인 이슈와 관련이 되어 있고 응용지리학적인 측면이 강하다. 노년학 분야에서 공간적, 입지적 관점의 유용성에도 불구하고 지리학에서의 노년연구는 지리학과 노년학 발전 모두에 별로 영향을 주지 못했고 양적으로도 많지 않다. 앞으로 지리학에서의 노년연구가 더욱 발전하기 위해서는 노인들의 다양성에 대한 이해와 시간적 변화에 대한 고려가 필요하다.

This paper considers the geographical aspects of the aged and aging. The principal objective of this paper is to review geographers' interest in the field of social gerontology and, if possible, to develop recommendations for further geographical research. Three interdependent themes characterize the geographical interest: the spatial distribution and mobility of the elderly, age-related changes in the individual's relationship with their environment and changing spatial behavior of the elderly, and applied interests in housing and service delivery for the elderly. These three clearly relate to the contemporary enthusiasms respectively for merits of spatial and locational perspectives, geographical studies of aging and the aged have had only a moderate impact on human geography and gerontology. The quantity of understanding the heterogeneity of elderly people: e.g. age, socioeconomic, ethnic, gender differences and considering the temporal changes for analysis of trends in the welfare and quality of life of elderly people.
