세계시민사회와 지구적 윤리

Abstract

1980년대 후반 이후 급속히 전개된 냉전체제의 종식， 세계화， 정보화 등은 17세기 베스트팔렌 조약 이래 형성된 근대 국민국가체제의 경계를 무너뜨리고 그 실효성을 의문시하게 만들었다. 세계화로 인해 이미 형성된 하나의 지구촌에서 각 개인과 국가들의 개별성과 다양성이 서로 충돌하지 않기 위해서는， 우리 각자의 개성을 유지하면서도 지구적 공동성을 모색하는 세계시민이 되어야 한다. 이런 시민은 수동적인 국민, 저항적인 민중, 획일적인 대중 과 달리， 능동적이고 참여적인 정치 · 사회적 특성과 타인을 존중하고 책임감을 갖는 윤리적 특성을 동시에 지녀야 한다. 특히 윤리학자인 큉( Hans Küng)은 현대사회의 여러 갈등과 충돌이 비윤리성에서 비롯되었다고 보고， 다른 종교， 다른 문화， 다른 가치관들 사이에 최소한의 원칙을 지키는 지구적 윤리의 정립을 제창한다. 이는 휴머니즘과 상호성이라는 두 원칙에 입각하며， 특히 자기중심적 휴머니즘에서 벗어나 초월성을 경외하며 지구적 책임의식을 갖는 윤리적 휴머니즘을 지향한다.

The end of Cold War and the diffusion of globalization since late 1980s have torn down the boundary of modern nation-states and have made us question its effectiveness. It is true that nowadays we live in a global village. In order to prevent the particularities of individuals and nation-states from clashing into one another, we should become global citizens, while preserving our own characters, and try to establish globality, i.e. global commonness at the same time. Global citizens are distinguished from passive and uniformed masses in that the former possess the sense of activity, participation, responsibility and ethics. In particular， Hans Küng sees that various kinds of conflicts and collisions in the contemporary world come from the lack of ethics, and contends that global ethics should be established to maintain principles among different religions, cultures and views of the world. Such global ethics is based upon two principles - the principle of humanism and the principle of reciprocity.
