Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the lexicographic descriptions of derivatives concentrating on some Korean dictionaries, and deal with the implications for development of dictionary-making. The derivatives, i.e. the derived lexemes, are in general productive and regular in spite of morphosyntactic or morphosemantic constraints. In dictionary-making, the lemmatisation should be systematic in macrostructure, and the cross-references should be effective in microstructure. However, most Korean dictionaries do not have admirable qualifications for the systematic lemmatisation of derivatives and for their cross-references. In lexicographically dealing with the derived lexemes, the morphosyntactic information is not effectively specified, and their definitions are not parallel to the meanings of the derivational components.
