후기 칸트의 역사철학

Abstract

칸트의 역사철학은 대부분 목적론적 역사철학으로 이해되고 있다. 이에 따르면 인류의 역사는 자연에 의해 기획되고 진행되는 자연의 역사의 일부이다. 이때 역사 이해의 방법론적 원리는 반성적 판단력의 합목적성이다. 그런데 칸트의 마지막 저서인 <학부들 사이의 논쟁>의 제2부는 이와는 전혀 다른 형태의 역사이해를 제공한다. 이 텍스트에는 자연목적론이 더 이상 등장하지 않으며, 심지어 인류 역사는 진보할 것이다.라는 명제가 모든 비판에도 유지가능한 객관적 타당성을 가진 명제로 제시되고 있다. - 이 논문은 이와 같은 후기 칸트의 역사철학을 분석의 대상으로 삼는다. 이 논문은 역사연구의 방법의 문제에 주목함으로써 역사징표 Geschichtszeichen의 인식적 기능을 밝히고, 그에 의거해서 우리가 예측할 수 있는 바의 미래 역사의 구체적 모습을 확인한다. 이러한 분석을 통해서 이 논문은 후기 칸트의 역사철학이 가지고 있는 특성을 드러내고 동시에 그것의 현재성을 확인하고자 한다.

Most of Kants philosophies of history are understood as being based on a teleological philosophy of history. Accordingly, the history of humanity is a part of the history of nature, which is planned and processed by it. The methodological principle is the finality of the reflective judgment. However, Kants last work, The debate between faculties (especially Part Two) provides a completely different understanding of history: The nature-teleology perspective does not appear anymore; the proposition the history of humanity will progress is presented as a proposition which has an objective validity. The subject of this paper is the historical philosophy of Kants later life. It begins with the problem of how to study history, and it pays attention to the issue of the sign of history (Geschichtszeichen) to reveal its cognitive function. Based on this, we will see the history of the future that might have been predicted (wahrsagen) by Kant. This paper reviews the history of philosophy in Kant late works and verifies its present state.
