Rising nationalism in 2008 has marked the turning point in Chinas evolving national identity. This most recent wave of nationalism shows that, as China rises as a great power, the Chinese peoples perceptions about their national identity are challenged by a number of issues that need to be addressed. The transformation of the Chinese national identity is influenced by both the Chinese government and the public. The Chinese government plays a leading role in constructing a national identity that complements its cultural diplomacy and serves Chinas core national interests. Meanwhile, the public also contributes to the forging of the national identity through expressing its views and demands in this regard. It is of great importance for people to understand Chinas emerging new national identity in dealing with this rising power.-
