형이상학적 일원론 모델로서의 예술가-형이상학 : <비극의 탄생>을 읽는 한 가지 방식

Abstract

예술가-형이상학은 <비극의 탄생> 전체의 뿌리이자 결정체다. <비극의 탄생>이 선보인 다른 사유들, 즉 예술론, 비극론, 문화 및 시대비판론은 그것과의 연계 없이는 그 전모를 밝힐 수 없다. 그래서 예술가-형이상학에 대한 공정한 평가야말로 <비극의 탄생>의 정당한 이해를 위해 필요불가결하다. 이런 예술가-형이상학은 존재적-인식적 일원론의 시도로 이해할 수 있다. 그것은 예술가-형이상학이 존재-생성 및 참-가상의 이원론을 극복하는 지점, 아폴론적 힘과 디오니소스적 힘의 모순성 및 비극성을 존재의 특징으로 주목하는 지점 등을 통해 확인할 수 있다. 예술가-형이상학이 이런 것이라면, 니체의 성숙한 후기 사유는 초기 사유의 발전적 완성이자 결실로 평가할 수 있다. 후기의 생기존재론 및 관점주의 인식론은 세계와 인간을 포함한 모든 것을 하나의 원리로 해명하려는 방법적 일원론, (초월적)목적론적-실체적-도덕적 사유방식과의 결별 같은 초기 사유의 단초와 방법론을 그대로 수용한다. 하지만 존재와 생성 및 참과 가상의 이원적 구분에 대한 대립과정이나, 가상의 존재적-인식적-가치적 복권의 시도들은 예술가-형이상학에서는 불분명하게 드러나거나 비명시적인 형태로 숨겨져 있는 것들로서, 후기 사유는 이것들을 명시적으로 구체화시켜 완성시킨다. 물론 힘에의 의지라는 개념은 후기의 새로운 설명 장치로, 아폴론적 힘과 디오니소스적 힘이라는 개념을 흡수하고 모순성보다는 관계성을 주목한다. 하지만 그것 역시 사유의 단절이나 관점의 전환이라기보다는 발전의 지점으로 읽힐 수 있다. 해석이라는 개념을 통해 인식적 가상의 완전한 복권을 수행하는 것 역시 마찬가지다. 예술가-형이상학을 이렇게 이해하면, <비극의 탄생>은 후기 사유를 씨앗의 형태로 품고 있는 저작이 된다.

Artisten-Metaphysik is both the root and crystallization of ≪The Birth of Tragedy≫. Of other thoughts presented in ≪The Birth of Tragedy≫, i.e., those on art, tragedy, and culture and age, we cannot gain a full picture without linking them to Artisten-Metaphysik. Thus, for a proper understanding of ≪The Birth of Tragedy≫, it is indispensable to make a fair assessment of Artisten-Metaphysik. Artisten-Metaphysik can be understood as ontological-epistemological monism. This can be confirmed at the points at which Artisten-Metaphysik overcomes the dualism of 'being-becoming,' 'truth-illusion' and 'reality-appearance' and where the contradictoriness and tragicalness of Apollonian and Dionysian powers are regarded as the features of being. As far as Artisten-Metaphysik is understood in this way, we appraise Nietzsche's late thoughts as the advanced completion and fruit of his early thoughts. His late ontology and perspectivism accommodate, as they are, methodological monism, which attempts to explicate the world and human beings by an identical 'one' principle, along with the idea and methodology which are separated from teleological-substantive-ethical thinking. However, the conflict process against dualism, and the rehabilitation process of appearance (becoming, illusion) are not clearly exposed, or hidden, in Artisten-Metaphysik. These are explicitly materialized and completed in his late thoughts. Clearly, the notion of will to power, as a new explaining device, absorbs Apollonian and Dionysian powers and focuses on the relationship itself rather than contradictoriness. However, it can also be read as a point of development rather than a severance of thinking or a change of view. The same is true with regard to the 'complete' rehabilitation of epistemological illusion through the concept of interpretation. If Artisten-Metaphysik is understood in this way, we can appraise ≪The Birth of Tragedy≫ as a work which broods upon his late thoughts in the form of a seed.
