기업이란 무엇인가?

Abstract

이 글에서는 기업의 개념을 기존의 네 개의 관점에서 정리한다. 첫째는 기업의 생성을 거래 주체들 간에 거래비용의 절감에 초점을 둔 신고전파적인 접근이고, 둘째는 기업을 경영을 위한 조직의 하나로서 보는 시각이다. 여기에는 다시 주인-대리인의 신고전파적인 시각과 진화론적인 접근의 두 개의 서로 다른 견해가 있다. 그리고 마지막으로 미국, 영국 및 독일과 같은 서구자본주의 경제 성장의 역사적인 관점에서 근대적인 대기업의 출현을 보는 것이다. 과거 반세기에 걸쳐 한국 경제의 성장과정에서 등장한 재벌에는 위의 기업의 생성과 성장에 대한 네 개의 개념 중 어떤 개념이 타당한 가를 생각해 본다.

This paper proposes a possible explanation for the emergence of Korean chaebols in view of the concepts of a firm. Among the transactions costs, principal-agent, evolutionary approach, Chandlers historical approach to the concept of a firm is a relevant one as for the growth of the Korean chaebols. I consider a Chandlers scale and scope related to the concept of a firm is applicable to the appearance of big firms in the late industrializing economy such as in Korean economy. The formation and the growth of the Korean chaebols can also be understood in this context as enunciated by Amsden. This paper suggests that an Ak technology in the capacity of chaebols makes it possible for them to accrue the benefits of their enodogenous growth.
