네트워크 분석을 통한 기업의 기술적 특성이 혁신성과에 미치는 영향 -IT산업을 중심으로-

Abstract

융복합이 활발하게 이뤄지고 있는 IT산업에서 보완자산이 부족한 중소기업들은 자신들의 기술역량을 파악하고 전략적으로 혁신을 추구하는 것이 요구되고 있다. 특히 기존의 지식들을 활용하거나 새로운 지식을 탐험하는 노력이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 혁신에 있어 기존의 지식, 새로운 지식과의 조합의 중요성을 바탕으로 기업의 기술역량에 초점을 맞추어 IPC공동출현 기술네트워크를 통해 기업이 가진 기술역량을 1) 연결강도를 통한 활용적 기술역량, 2) 풀(Pool)의 다양성을 통한 탐험적 기술역량, 3) 네트워크(Network)의 다양성을 통한 복합적 기술역량으로 구분하고, 이러한 기술역량이 각각 활용적, 탐험적 혁신성과에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지에 대해 실증적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 NICE 신용평가에서 제공하는 한국표준산업분류(KSIC-9)(9차개정) 중 26(전자부품, 컴퓨터, 영상, 음향 및 통신장비 제조업), 28(전기장비 제조업)을 IT산업으로 보고 해당 분류에 속한 중소기업들의 특허데이터를 수집하였다. 기업이 가진 기술적 특징인 연결강도, 풀(Pool)의 다양성, 네트워크(Network)의 다양성을 설명변수로, 이외에 기업의 혁신에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 기업연령, 총 특허 수, 매출액을 통제변수로 두고 종속변수를 각각 활용적 혁신성과와 탐험적 혁신성과로 구분해 각 기술적 특성이 각 혁신성과에 미치는 영향에 대해 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 활용적 기술역량인 연결강도는 활용적 혁신성과 및 탐험적 혁신성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주고, 특히 활용적 혁신성과에 더 큰 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 탐험적 기술역량인 풀(Pool)의 다양성 또한 활용 및 탐험적 혁신성과 모두에 긍정적인 영향을 주며, 특히 탐험적 혁신성과에 보다 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 복합적 기술역량인 네트워크(Network) 다양성의 경우, 활용적 혁신성과에는 긍정적인 영향을 주나, 탐험적 혁신성과에는 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 기업은 한정된 자원의 제약 속에 자신들이 가진 기술역량을 파악하여 혁신을 추구할 필요가 있다는 전략적 시사점을 도출하였다.

The convergence between technologies has been performed actively in the IT industry. Firms specially SMEs(Small and medium enterprises) having lack of complementary assets are required to pursue an innovation strategically. Most of all, they need to exploit their existing knowledge and explore new knowledge. In this research, I focused on firms technological aspects based on importance of combinations of existing and new knowledge for an innovation. Using IPC co-occurrence network, I divided firms technological aspect into three types. 1) the exploitative technological aspect through a tie strength, 2) the explorative technological aspect through a pool diversity, 3) the complex technological aspect through a network diversity. And I analyzed empirically how each aspect affect exploitative innovation and explorative innovation. I used the Korea standard industrial classification(9th edition)(KSIC-9) provided by the NICE information service corporation and gathered patents from KIPRIS. As a results, I found that both a tie strength which is the exploitative technological aspect and a pool diversity which is the explorative technological aspect have positive impact on the exploitative and explorative innovation. But the tie strength has more impact on the exploitative innovation and the pool diversity has more impact on the explorative innovation. Lastly, the network diversity which is the complex technological aspect has positive impact on the exploitative innovation but negative impact on the explorative innovation. With this result, firms should recognize and strategically use their technological aspects for innovations with their limited resources.
