- Phase change memory (PCM), compared to DRAM are being paid much attention to because of its lower power usage and greater capacity per unit. However due to their difference in characteristics, there are limita- tions when either is solely used. Therefore hybrid memory systems using a PCM and DRAM combination are being studied and are in process of de- velopment. Due to the characteristics of memory type, the page placement and migration algorithm is extremely important part of the entire system. In this paper, related studies are compared and analyzed and a new page mi- gration algorithm
virtues which includes reduction of the number of page migration, gaining benefits of energy and average access time by deciding page’s hotness correctly and predicting future access patterns will be intro- duced. We have devised a new mechanism for effectively managing such hybrid memory systems, which places and migrates pages by deciding their Hotness correctly and predicting future access patterns. We have compared it with recently developed method that manages the hybrid memory sys- tems. We found that using of our approach reduces average access time and energy consumption approximately 40% compared with the Clock-DWF.
